DR. PAUL FREDERICKS

DMin from Fuller Theological Seminary

I am a pastor and I cannot think of anything I would rather do. Being a pastor involves some of the greatest joys and challenges that one can experience. I get to see Jesus Christ transform human beings in a way that nothing else can. The Lord Jesus, in His grace, uses me in this in process. It also involves some of the most significant challenges one can experience. It is my belief that this pastoral calling should be part of the experience of every follower of Jesus. We are all called into mission and ministry. For some this takes place in their homes, others in their places of work, and for still others in their neighborhoods. Whatever your mission and ministry setting it is my desire to help you find your pastoral calling and to cultivate your God-given gifts.

I have a B.A. in Religious Studies from Wheaton College, a M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, a M.S.W. from Rutgers University, and D.Min. from Fuller Seminary. The Lord, in His grace, has used this “classroom” education in my calling, but of equal importance has been my education in the churches I have had the privilege of serving. I was part of a church planting team in a non-denominational church in London, England. I spent several years in youth ministry at a Presbyterian church and an Episcopal church. During college part of my field education involved serving in a Southern Baptist church in the inner city of Chicago. My first ordained call was to a wonderful small rural church in Pottersville, PA. After six years the Lord called me to be an Associate Pastor in Walla Walla, WA. This happened to be my home church and it was a privilege to be able to give back to the people who had helped to raise me in the faith. After three years, I felt the Lord calling me to us the gifts of leadership He had given me in the role of Senior Pastor. For the last twelve years I have the honor of leading the church family at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Prosser, WA.

Prior to seminary I met my wife, Ellie, in Walla Walla, WA. We are the proud parents of three beautiful daughters. Heather, out eldest, recently graduated from Wheaton College and is working in Seattle. Our middle daughter, Nicole, is attending Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. Our youngest, Courtney, will be a senior at Prosser High School. One of my great joys is to spend time with Ellie and these wonderful young ladies. My other loves are reading, gardening, and exercising.

As a pastor, one of my greatest passions is teaching. In particular, I love to help others to develop and use their gifts for the building of Christ’s kingdom. I am particularly interested in coming alongside of individuals and helping them to learn some of the practical skills involved in pastoral ministry. The course I teach will cover developing the qualities of a missional leader, providing pastoral care, as well as a basic overview of preaching/teaching. My hope is that my experience and education will help me to help you to more effectively serve our Lord Jesus Christ.
